GUWAHATI, Aug 18: In a significant development, the chief minister’s Anti-Corruption and Surveillance Wing, in collaboration with the police, carried out a raid at the residence of a high-ranking official from the state’s Public Works Department (PWD). The operation resulted in the astonishing seizure of a staggering Rs 45 lakh in cash.
The targeted individual, Manuj Kumar Saikia, executive engineer of PWD(R&B), Haflong Division, had previously been apprehended by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on charges of bribery in Haflong on Thursday.
The arrest was initiated after Saikia was caught red-handed accepting a bribe from a complainant for the release of pending bills. Subsequent to the arrest, a search operation was conducted at his residence, leading to the discovery and confiscation of a substantial amount of cash totaling Rs 45,54,385.
This operation underscores the commitment of the authorities to combat corruption and uphold transparency in government institutions. The magnitude of the cash seizure highlights the gravity of the situation and the determination to root out unlawful practices.
