TEZPUR, Nov 26: The Department of Political Science at Darrang College, Tezpur, celebrated Constitution Day, also known as National Law Day, to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. The event, held in collaboration with the IQAC and NSS cell of the college, featured various activities to promote the spirit of democracy and constitutional values.

On November 26, 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, which came into effect on January 26, 1950.

The program began with a thought-provoking lecture on the making of the Indian Constitution by Dharitiri Sarmah, a faculty member from the Law College, Tezpur. The session concluded with a collective recitation of the Preamble to the Constitution, highlighting the shared commitment to justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

Dr Kankan Deka, faculty of the Department of History, served as the resource person. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of the rule of law and the constitution. Dr Deka stated that Constitution Day is not just a celebration but a reaffirmation of the commitment to the principles guiding the nation. He highlighted that the Constitution is founded on two premises: Democracy and the rule of law, which ensure their survival by supporting and complementing each other. Dr Deka urged the gathering to remain vigilant against any potential attacks on constitutional values.
