SIVASAGAR, Sept 8: The Sivasagar district Congress marked the anniversary of the Bharat Jodo Movement initiated by their leader Rahul Gandhi with a meeting held at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in Sivasagar. Prominent Congress party leaders, including the working president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Raja Goswami, vice president Pranoti Phukan, party spokesperson Apurba Bhattacharjee, and Sivasagar Congress president Manjeer Gogoi, participated in the meeting and later addressed the media.
Rana Goswami criticised the BJP’s attempt to change the name of the country from India to Bharat, considering it a sign of disrespect to their mentor Shyama Pd Mukherjee, who advocated for the name India. Goswami also lashed out at the Home department for its failure to apprehend accused ASP Subhalaksmi Dutta, who has evaded capture after committing serious crimes against a poor domestic worker in Nazira. He pointed out that this was a significant failure on the part of the chief minister, who oversees the Home department. In the case of Indrani Tahbildar’s suicide, the Home department has yet to question any senior BJP leaders suspected of involvement. Goswami further accused the government of benefiting a handful of contractors by building numerous medical colleges without creating sufficient support staff and doctors.
Pranoti Phukan, Apurba Bhattacharjee, and Manjeer Gogoi stated that the BJP government had not fulfilled its pre-election promises, such as providing 24-hour electricity, clean drinking water, and land titles to all indigenous people. During the meeting, over a hundred people joined the party in the presence of these leaders.
