So-called scribe arrested for alleged blackmailing

NAGAON, Nov 16: A so-called scribe of Nagaon identified as Abdul Jalil Akand, was arrested last night by Nagaon police for allegedly blackmailing a youth, Obaidur Rahman, through his web portal.

According to sources, Akand had threatened to publish a news article on Rahman’s alleged involvement with a cattle smuggling racket unless he paid Rs 50,000.

Rahman in this regard, filed a complaint at Nagaon Sadar Police Station, leading to Akand’s arrest under sections 1096/24 and 61(2)/308(2)/35(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanghita.

This is not Akand’s first arrest; he has previously spent time in jail twice on similar blackmailing charges, sources added further.
