MARGHERITA, Nov 27: The 554th Guru Nanak Jayanti unfolded in a symphony of devotion and communal harmony at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara Margherita on Monday. The historic gurdwara, established in 1954, serves the 20 Sikh families residing in the 83rd Margherita Constituency of Tinsukia district.
In an atmosphere steeped in reverence, Guru Nanak Jayanti commenced with the reverent hoisting of the Nishan Sahib, the Sikh religious flag. This was followed by a fervent prayer session, the distribution of sacred prasad, soul-stirring kirtan, and a heartwarming community feast known as langar.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara Margherita’s general secretary, Bhupender Singh Virdi, emphasised the universality of Guru Nanak’s teachings, which transcend barriers of caste, creed, race, language, and religion.
“Year after year, we gather to commemorate Guru Nanak Jayanti, welcoming individuals from all walks of life to partake in this sacred celebration,” Virdi remarked.
Bahadur Singh, a devout Sikh, recounted Guru Nanak’s remarkable journey of spreading the message of Sikhism across the globe, spanning an incredible 30,000 kilometers. He emphasized the three fundamental principles that underpin Sikhism, which include constant remembrance of God, earning an honest livelihood, sharing one’s earnings through charity.
