SSB conducts anti-drug awareness program

GOSSAIGAON, May 27: The 31st Battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) stationed at Matiajuri in Gossaigaon organised an awareness program on ‘Say No to Drugs’ and career objectives in CAPFs at St Anthony English Medium School, Gossaigaon.

Sh Parag, second-in-commandant of 31st Bn SSB, Gossaigaon, delivered a valuable speech on the topic, aiming to educate and raise awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug use on adolescent psychological health. The session emphasised that drug abuse can lead to various serious issues, including social, emotional, and vocational problems.

It was highlighted that substance abuse adversely affects an individual’s physical and mental well-being, social relationships, family dynamics, work performance, educational pursuits, and overall quality of life. Specific consequences of substance abuse discussed included organ damage, particularly to the heart, brain, and liver.

Prashansa Yadav, Ct/GD, and Wondangbeni Kikon, Ct/GD, delivered motivational lectures promoting awareness about careers in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and encouraged students to consider joining CAPFs, which include the SSB, BSF, CISF, ITBP, CRPF, and Assam Rifles. They emphasised the opportunity to serve the nation while receiving a competitive salary.

The awareness program saw good participation from about 280 students, teachers, and Father Linesh Chalko.
