MARGHERITA, July 5: Tension erupted on Monday at Rajiv Bhawan in Digboi following the removal of Bhaskar Jivan Baruah, the elected president of Hapjan Block Congress, who had won the party’s organisational elections. The decision to replace Baruah with Vinod Kharia as the president has sparked anger among Digboi Congress workers towards the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and Tinsukia District Congress Committee.

Sources reveal that if Bhaskar Jivan Baruah is indeed removed from the position of president in Hapjan Block Congress Committee, all mandal and block Congress workers will resign simultaneously. A letter and accompanying videos documenting the incident, signed by all mandal and block Congress workers, will be sent to Jitendra Singh, general secretary of AICC, Bhupen Kumar Borah, APCC president, Debabrata Saikia, CLP leader of Opposition, and Rokibul Hussain, deputy CLP leader of Opposition, urging them to reinstate Bhaskar Jivan Baruah as the president of Hapjan Block Congress Committee.

The Hapjan Block Congress Committee is one of the active committees within the Tinsukia District Congress Committee, which consists of eight blocks. The incident has significantly dampened the morale of Congress leaders and workers, particularly during the organisation of booth committees.

Adding to the situation, a few days ago, controversial Congress leader Binud Kharia was accused of involvement in the black marketing of rice from the Borbil Cooperative Society to shopkeepers, further complicating matters within the party.
