Tribute to late Prime Minister

JORHAT, Jan 3: Rich tributes were paid to former Prime Minister and economist Manmohan Singh at a shraddhanjali (homage) programme organised on Friday by the Nagarik Samaj Jorhat at the auditorium of the Shankardev Kala Krishti Gaveshana Kendra here.

In the programme presided over by Nagarik Samaj president Hemanta Kalita, Dr Nilima Bora, a retired vice-principal of Jorhat College (Amalgamated) delivered a lecture on the life and achievements of Dr Singh as the keynote speaker.

She dwelt at length about the former Prime Minister’s pivotal role in changing the economic scenario of the country by adopting the policy of economic liberalisation.

Noted social worker and a retired joint director of health services Dr Balin Khargharia and known businessman Amrik Singh also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, the Asam Sahitya Sabha president elect Basanta Goswami led in lighting the lamp and also spoke on the occasion.

The welcome address was delivered by Parag Dutta.

At the outset of a prayer was rendered by students of Asom Satriya Sangeet Mahavidyalaya under the guidance of noted musician, filmmaker and singer Jayanta Nath.
