DIPHU, July 21: The Karbi Students Association (KSA) celebrated its 64th foundation day with separate programmes organised by different factions to commemorate the occasion.
Chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, graced both celebrations as the chief guest, attending the events led by president Mirjeng Kro (KSA Inglongpho) and president Thomson Rongpi (KSA Lumding Road) factions.
During the celebrations, Ronghang said that the possibility of being granted the autonomous state is high during chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s tenure.
He also highlighted the need for a solar power plant at Lahorijan to protect the boundary from encroachers from Nagaland.
KSA Inglongpho group marked the foundation day at the KSA central executive committee office in Rongthe-ang, while KSA Lumding Road faction organised their celebration at Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Memorial Town Hall in Matipung. Another faction of KSA, led by president Jemson Timung, held their celebration at the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) office.
Ronghang stressed the importance of implementing Article 244(A) of the Indian Constitution to establish an Autonomous State. He proposed measures to safeguard the boundaries, including the sealing of borders.
He further highlighted setting up of state university, CRPF training camp, Assam Police Commando training camp and a solar power plant at Lahorijan.
Ronghang also announced that a KAAC team would meet Union education and skill development and entrepreneurship minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, to discuss the establishment of a full-fledged Central University at the existing Assam University Diphu Campus.
Furthermore, the CEM declared that July 21 would be observed as Student’s Day every year and it would be included in the KAAC calendar.
To enhance education in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, multiple chairmen will be appointed to monitor schools’ performance. These chairmen will visit educational blocks, ensure teacher punctuality, and provide reports to KAAC on school-related issues and student learning.
A delegation will meet the Prime Minister of India to address concerns about awarding ST (H) status to Bodos living in the hill districts of Assam. To improve education, a separate Gunotsav will be conducted by KAAC involving principal secretary, KAAC, SP, DC, government officials, and student organisations.
