DIPHU, Nov 17: Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr Virendra Kumar accompanied by MP Amarsing Tisso and several other dignitaries visited several places in Karbi Anglong on Sunday.
The visit began at 9:30 am with a trip to the Samelangso Aspirational Block. At Longtu Rongphar village, the minister attended a meeting and expressed appreciation for the district’s rich cultural heritage, particularly the traditional weaving.
Following the meeting, Dr Kumar interacted with villagers through house-to-house visits to inspect Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana (PMGAY) houses and water supply facilities under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
In the afternoon, at 2:30 pm, the minister visited Howraghat. He interacted with residents of Borbil en route and arrived at the Howraghat Community Health Centre by 3:30 pm. There, he reviewed healthcare facilities and engaged with patients.
On his return to Diphu, Kumar visited paddy fields and interacted with farmers, discussing local issues such as road conditions and water facilities.
Concluding the day’s activities, the Union minister attended a public interaction meeting at the Diphu Town Hall at 5:20 pm.
The meeting focused on public opinions, particularly from women, children, the physically challenged, transgender community, and social organisations, to address societal issues such as drug addiction.
Along with Virendra Kumar, other department officials like the Deputy Commissioner, Nirola Phangchopi; Executive Member, KAAC, Lunsing Teron; and Secretary, KAAC, Dilip Terang, were also present during the visit.
Dr Kumar’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive development and addressing grassroots challenges in Karbi Anglong.
