TEZPUR, March 16: The state directorate of museums has organised a five-day long comprehensive workshop on the subject ‘Conservation of Stone artefacts and Re-Organization’ at the district museum in Tezpur.
The workshop, which began on March 11, concluded on March 15.
Tezpur better known for its historical significance and nestled in the heart of Sonitpur district, can boastof a rich heritage. Several stone artefacts have discovered throughout the region. Many of these invaluable relics are being preserved in the district museum, serving as windows into the illustrious past of the area.
The workshop, a collaborative effort by the directorate of museums and local stakeholders, marked a significant milestone in the on-going conservation endeavours undertaken by the state government. Students from various parts of the state and from various backgrounds including history, cultural studies and archaeology have come to participate in the workshop. By focusing on the preservation of stone artefacts, participants engaged in hands-on training, learning essential techniques and methodologies crucial for safeguarding these treasures for future generations.
Antareen Talukdar, laboratory chemist of the director of museums, expressed his enthusiasm for the workshop, stating the initiative underscores their commitment to preserving Assam’s rich cultural legacy.
“Through concerted efforts and knowledge-sharing, we aim to bolster conservation measures and raise awareness about the importance of protecting our heritage. The event not only signifies a proactive approach to conservation of our heritage, but also underscores the directorate of museums’ dedication to fostering a deeper appreciation for the historical significance embedded within the state’s landscapes. As these conservation efforts continue to unfold, they undoubtedly contribute to the broader tapestry of safeguarding Assam’s cultural heritage,” Talukdar said.
