World AIDS Day awareness rally in Morigaon

MORIGAON, Dec 1: On the occasion of World AIDS Day, an awareness rally was inaugurated by Dr Phani Pathak, joint director of Health, Morigaon, at Manipur ME School. Approximately 150 students and members of the local community actively participated in spreading the theme of the year 2023, “Let’s Community Lead.”

Following the rally, an awareness meeting took place at the conference hall of Manipur GP. The meeting was chaired by Mahendra Saikia, president of Axom Sahitya Sabha, Morigaon. Dr Phani Pathak provided insights into the current scenario of Morigaon, emphasising an integrated approach for HIV, syphilis, TB, and hepatitis. Dyotiva Bora, ADC (Health), also graced the occasion, emphasising strong community participation and assuring support from the district administration for the welfare of society concerning HIV/AIDS.

Representatives from various organisations, including ICTC, PPTCT YRG Care, AHANA, Samala Mahila Sangha (TI project), and DTC Morigaon, attended the meeting. Dr Nayanmoni Bordoloi (MO Udari SD) and the community health officer of Manipur HWC, Sukumar Mandal, along with staff, ASHAs, and Manipur Gaon Panchayat, played a crucial role in organising the event.

Simultaneously, a blood donation drive was conducted at RD Motors premises, and some representatives were felicitated for their participation. The core team dedicated to fighting against HIV/AIDS received appreciation letters. Dr Amar Jyoti Deka, district AIDS control officer, Morigaon, concluded the meeting with a vote of thanks. The event aimed to raise awareness, foster community engagement, and promote collective efforts to address the challenges posed by HIV/AIDS.
