GUWAHATI, Nov 17: A swift operation by the Noonmati Police Station (PS) under the City Guwahati Police District (CGPD) has led to the arrest of a 25-year-old accused involved in two cases of breach of trust, the city police officials informed on Monday.
The accused, identified as Manab Deka of Magzine, was apprehended for his alleged role in a car rental scam.
Taking to the micro-blogging site X, the Guwahati Police stated, “A CGPD team from Noonmati PS arrested one Manab Deka (25) of Magzine, who was wanted in two cases of breach of trust.”
According to the Guwahati Police, Deka fraudulently took four vehicles on rent and later sold them off without the owners’ knowledge.
The vehicles involved include a Toyota Fortuner (AS01DU3229), Hyundai Creta (AS01NC8576), Maruti Swift Dzire (AS01BU4605), and a Tata Nexon (AS01FS2537).
The police team has already recovered three of the four vehicles and returned them to their rightful owners after completing legal formalities.
Further probe is underway to locate and recover the fourth vehicle.
Legal action has been initiated against Deka, who is currently in police custody.
“Team has already recovered 3 cars and handed them over to the legal owners post due diligence. Legal action initiated against the accused”, the Guwahati Police added.
