New Delhi, Feb 8: Sources reveal that the Congress party is set to release a ‘Black Paper’ as a counter to the ‘White Paper’ the central government plans to introduce during the current budget session of Parliament.
The ‘Black Paper’ will reportedly highlight the 10-year governance of the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is anticipated to present this ‘Black Paper’.
Earlier, during the February 1 union budget announcement, the central government expressed its intention to release a ‘White Paper’ to analyze the economic accomplishments of the Congress-led UPA government over 10 years vis-Ã -vis the BJP-led NDA government’s performance.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her interim budget 2024-25 speech, praised the Modi government for successfully handling the challenges since 2014 and establishing a robust, sustainable economic growth trajectory. Sitharaman announced the forthcoming ‘White Paper’ as a tool to learn from the past mishandlings.
The budget session began on January 31, with President Droupadi Murmu addressing the joint assembly of both Houses. The session, being the last before the Lok Sabha elections expected in April-May, is scheduled to conclude on February 9.
