New Delhi, Feb 7: A Delhi court has summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on February 17 following his failure to respond to five notices from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the liquor excise policy scam case.
The ED filed a new complaint against Kejriwal last week due to his non-compliance. Kejriwal has dismissed the summons as illegal, claiming they are part of the BJP-led central’s strategy to target competitors ahead of the Lok Sabha poll.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has labeled the ED’s actions as politically motivated. In this case, the Central Bureau of Investigation interrogated Kejriwal for nine hours last year, but he has not been charged.
Two prominent AAP members have been arrested, including former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The case involves allegations of the AAP government obtaining kickbacks from cartels through a modified alcohol sales policy.
Both the ED and the CBI allege that the policy encouraged cartelization and favored specific dealers who bribed for liquor sales licenses. The AAP has categorically denied all allegations.
