The organisation appealed to the district commissioner to communicate with the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for calling the Maha- Sivarati a bandh day.

The organisation said in the memorandum that the lord Siva is the ‘worthy of worship’ of Nath-Jogi community so the community is known as Siva-pantha in its traditional religious faith. The ethnic community had worshiped the Lord Siva for their peace so the community was known as Siva religion or Bratya religion in ancient time.

“It is said that according to forefather of the Nath community, the Lord Siva is the first Jogi of Nath community. Since then the Nath community has been celebrating Maha-  Sivarati with traditional religious  rituals on earth. So the Nath community has been celebrating the day as special day on the occasion of the Maha-Sivarati. They worship the Lord Siva with fasting,” the memorandum stated.

The organization has further appealed to the chief minister to include the day of Maha-Sivratri as holiday in govt holiday list.
