TEZPUR, April 8: Assamese and other ethnic communities in Tezpur, along with its adjoining areas are busy preparing for celebrating the traditional aboriginal ethnic festival, Rongali Bihu in a befitting way.
Bihu committees in both rural urban areas are seen doing all sorts of preparation for the highest festival of Assamese people.
It is pertinent to mention here that major bihu committees in and around Tezpur town including West Tezpur Anchalik Rongjali Bwisagw celebration committee, Gahan Udyan Rangali Bihu Sanmilan, Jaimati Pathar Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Rangali Pathar Bihu Sanmilan, Saikia Chuburi Bahumukhi Rangali Bihu Sanmilan, Nabapur Bihu Sanmilan, Madhya Tezpur Bihu Sanmilan, Ghorpora Chuburi Bihu Sanmilan, Rangamti Bihu Sanmilan (Bihaguri), Puthimari Anchalik Rongali Bihu Sanmilan (Puthimari), Pachim Gabharu Rongali Bihu Sanmilan (Kawaimari), Thelamara Anchalick Rongali Bihu Sanmilan and Dhekiajuli Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan are busy in bihu preparation.
Moreover, with workshop at various places in the district, administration here is going all out in its effort to materialize the Guinness record for the world’s largest performance of Bihu in the ensuing Bihu celebrations slated on April 14 adding to the expected 11,000 folk dancers and musicians to gather at Guwahati’s Sarusajai stadium for an hour-long performance.
Briefing the preparation for the mega event Sonitpur DC, Deba Kumar Mishra said that from Sonitpur total 12 Bihu teams comprising a total of 1100 members including 770 dancers (bihuwoti), 231 dhulia (Dhol players), 22 pepua (Pepa player), 33 talia, 22 Toka players, 22 Gogona players are busy in their final preparation to take part in the event. Total 48 experts have been imparting training to the Bihu Teams since March 27.
Meanwhile, chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was on a day-long Tezpur visit, on Saturday monitored the final rehearsal being held at Church field here.
Sarma prior to it visited the Harijan colony here and took stock of their living conditions and assured them to facilitate them with modern dwelling facilities giving a facelift to the area.
“If they are interested in this regard for a detailed study on it I will send the local state cabinet minister cum Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal. After availing a detailed report regarding uplift of these people’s condition, the government will go for every possible developmental activity for them,” he said.
He also unveiled the statue of Usha Aniruddha at court Chariali in the heart of the town during his day-long programme.
