Bihu workshop for differently-abled in Jorhat

JORHAT, April 13: Well known Bihu dancer Chumki Hazarika taught spastics and other disabled children for free at a five-day workshop on  Bihu dance and dhol playing for the students of ‘Prerona Pratibandhi Sishu Bikas Kendra,’  Cinnamara, here, recently.


The workshop was conducted with the support of Sayera Rahman, Principal of the Kendra.
Manuranjan Borah and Nayan Jyoti Borah served as chief and assistant trainers, respectively for dhol playing at the workshop. It may be mentioned here that Prerona Pratibandhi Sishu Bikas Kendra is a non-government, non profit and voluntary organisation working for children and adult with special needs and  under-privileged,  and was established in 1992.


An employee of the kendra informed that the students were enthusiastic and eager to participate in the workshop, expressing their keenness to learn new skills and enjoy the experience. On the concluding day the students of the Kendra performed at a cutural function, which was attended by Jayanta Bezbaruah,  a former president,  Aditi Bezbaruah, Secretary,, Eliza Begum  treasurer of the management committee of the Kendra.


Chetona Borgohain, a well-known bihu dancer and trainer, Amiya Madhuri Neog, also a noted bihu dancer, Prasenjit Lahon, a popular singer Utpal Das and Utpal Bora, both noted journalists, were amongst the invited guests who attended the function. Certificates were also presented to the students and the event concluded with vote of thanks offered by Chumki Hazarika.
