Attending the passing out parade ceremony of 1946 newly recruited constables of Manipur Police at Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, Dergaon on Monday, Acharya said the contemporary problems demand capable and responsive police forces to ensure stability and peace, for the region to tread the path of progress and prosperity.

“The 21st Century has ushered in its own set of challenges. Though turbulence and uncertainty have manifested all along the history of mankind, this century has witnessed challenges emanating from digital proliferation,” Acharya said.

He, thereby, asked the police forces to equip themselves with the art of policing required to deal with the challenges of the 21st century.

The intensive 44-week basic training course for 1,984 Manipur Police recruits commenced at the Assam Police Academy here in January.

Acharya congratulated the newly trained constables, stating, “Today marks a momentous occasion in your lives. You have successfully completed your rigorous training with hard work, dedication, and courage.”

Speaking on the institution where they received training, the Governor said that the legacy of Lachit Barphukan, the great Ahom commander, known for his extraordinary leadership and strategic prowess during the historic Battle of Saraighat in 1671, always stands as a testament to the heroics and patriotism of the Ahom commander.

Urging them to emulate the heroics of Veer Lachit, Acharya said, “The spirit to serve the nation will help the police constables serve the people.” He also extended his gratitude to the trainers and officers of the academy for their exceptional efforts in shaping the constables into strong and capable protectors.

“Your service forms the foundation of our nation’s security, peace, and prosperity. Your uniform symbolises your conduct, duty, and integrity. As protectors of people, you will become the voice of those in need,” he further added.

Highlighting the importance of Manipur’s rich cultural, social, and historical heritage, Governor Acharya stressed the importance of working together as a cohesive team for the betterment of the state and country.

He also emphasised the need for a capable and responsive police force to address emerging challenges, including cybercrime and digital security. Acharya stated that the tougher conditions of Manipur demands the participation of youths in the defense sector. “More than ever before, at present, Manipur requires young men and women to take up the challenge of navigation through troubled waters and work tirelessly and selflessly even at the peril of their lives in the service of their state,” he stressed.

The passing-out parade ceremony marked the culmination of the rigorous training program, which included physical fitness, small arms training, unarmed combat, crowd control, disaster management, law and policing, and soft skills.
