Guwahati pays tribute to Pulin Das

GUWAHATI, July 16: Late Pulin Das, an undisputed apostle of Assam’s greater sports arena, admired as the ‘Krira Mohirooh’, was remembered in a memorial meeting on his tenth death anniversary on Tuesday, at his residence on Lamb Road in the Jorpukhuripar locality of Guwahati city. The solemn program was organised by the Krira Mohirooh Pulin Das Memorial Committee.

Late Pulin Das, a noted sportsman, veteran sports organiser, premier sports journalist, and the first sports pensioner of the state, was a key figure in the establishment of several state sports bodies, such as the Assam Cricket Association, Assam Badminton Association, Assam Table Tennis Association, Assam Football Association, Assam Sports Pensioners’ Association, and Gauhati Sports Association. He also played a significant role in the commencement of the Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament.

Recently, a delegation from the Krira Mohirooh Pulin Das Memorial Committee called on chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, presenting a memorandum requesting the introduction of a state award in the name of Pulin Das for sports journalists and writers. The committee also requested the instalation of a bust of late Das in a suitable place in Guwahati. The greater sports community of the state has expressed high hopes for a positive response.
