Minister Pijush Hazarika assesses flood and erosion impact in Jorhat district

JORHAT, Sept 26: Pijush Hazarika, the minister for parliamentary affairs, water resources, information and public relations; printing and stationery; social justice and empowerment, conducted an extensive inspection of flood and erosion-affected areas in Jhanji and Teok within Jorhat district.

The minister assessed the extent of erosion along the Jhanji River at Jhanji Rajabari Boragaon and engaged in a discussion with local residents. After consulting with officials from the Water Resources Department, Hazarika assured the community of taking necessary measures to address erosion in Hatimuria, Sensowa, Boragaon, Gayangaon, and Dhemajigaon before the upcoming monsoon season. Additionally, he assessed the condition of transportation infrastructure and roads in these villages.

Hazarika also visited Banai village along the riverbank to evaluate the damage caused by recent floods and erosion. He pledged to initiate projects to raise and widen the embankment in this area within the next two months.

During his visit, Hazarika interacted with villagers at the Hanuman Mandir in Banai to gain insight into their problems and concerns. Residents from villages incorporated into the Mariani constituency due to the recent delimitation process also attended and raised their issues, which the minister duly noted.

Accompanied by Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, Hazarika promised the people at the meeting to convey their request for the paving of the existing 25 km embankment along the Jhanji River to the chief minister.

Hazarika proceeded to the Susabat area, inspecting the sluice gate and assuring villagers of its prompt functionality. Later, he held a public meeting in the Jokaichuk and Simaluguri Mouza areas, where he took note of the concerns voiced by the local population.

Accompanying the minister during his tour were officials from the Water Resources Department, Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, AIIDC chairman Santanu Puzari, Jorhat district unit BJP president Hemanta Kalita, and several district office-bearers of the ruling party.
