Minor boy drowns in Jamuna River at Manja

DIPHU, June 2: In a heartbreaking incident, a minor boy drowned in the Jamuna River at Manja, Karbi Anglong, on Sunday afternoon. The child’s body, which had gone missing, was recovered today (June 2) after a tireless search operation.

The rescue effort was jointly carried out by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Kuki Students’ Organisation (Manja Unit), and the Kuki Colony Village Authority.

As per reports, the child was at the riverbank with his mother when he accidentally slipped into the water. In a desperate attempt to save him, the mother also entered the river but was unable to rescue her son. She narrowly escaped drowning and was saved by a local youth, Thangminhao Lhouvum, son of Pastor Thangkhojang Lhouvum.

The mother is currently undergoing treatment at the Diphu Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H) in Karbi Anglong.

The tragic incident has cast a pall of grief over the community, and local leaders have extended their condolences to the bereaved family.
