The youth Suresh Chakma (23) of Firing, Dimapur along with his friends on Saturday last had come to Langvoku waterfall for a picnic. His friends said they had climbed up to the steep upper level of the waterfall and while taking selfies Suresh slipped and fell from the top.

On Sunday, the SDRF team from Hojai reached the spot and started to search for the body of Chakma. The SDRF team joined by Fire & Emergency Service, Diphu continued the search operation along the downstream of Langvoku River, but was unable to trace out the body. Langvoku Waterfall Development Committee also assisted in the search operation.

Assistant commissioner from Diphu, Gunjun Sharma said the SDRF team started the search operation on Sunday and continued it till Monday, but their efforts did not bear fruit. On Sunday, due to the high volume of water the rescue team had to stop the search operation. The SDRF team will continue the search for the body, which they suspect has been stuck underneath the stones, and may also search downstream at Chomna River.

The victim’s sister, who was present at the incident site, urged the Assam and Nagaland governments to trace the body of her missing brother.
