NAGAON, May 22: The District Development Office of NABARD, Nagaon, organised a plantation drive titled ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ at the College of Fisheries (CoF), Raha, on Thursday, as part of a broader campaign under the observance of the International Year of Cooperatives – 2025.
The drive aimed to promote environmental sustainability and cooperative-based development.
Saplings of various fruit-bearing trees, including mango, litchi, apple ber, cherry, sweet orange (malta), guava, and sapodilla (chiku), were planted by invited dignitaries, faculty members, and students.
District Development Manager of NABARD, Rajendar Perna, highlighted that the plantation initiative marks the beginning of a series of activities planned under IYC-2025.
These include Cooperative Literacy Camps, women SHG/JLG awareness events, and promotional campaigns on natural and organic farming, climate-smart agriculture, and solar villages through cooperatives.
Assistant Commissioner Bidyashree Langthasa commended the success of last
of CoF Dr P C Bhuyan expressed gratitude to NABARD for choosing the college campus for the drive and urged students to nurture the saplings.
Lead District Manager Khurshid Ansari also addressed the gathering, stating that small efforts like this drive can lead to significant community impact.
The event saw participation from members of the college’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell and NSS volunteers.
