GUWAHATI, July 25: The Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway has announced a significant enhancement in train connectivity in the Barak Valley region by increasing the frequency of two pairs of passenger trains operating between Silchar and Maishashan.
According to an official statement issued on Friday, the move is aimed at improving regional mobility and boosting the local economy through better access and transport services.

The trains involved in this frequency upgrade are train no 55662/55661 and train no 55686/55685 (Silchar–Maishashan–Silchar passenger services).
Both services, which previously operated only twice a week, will now run six days a week from their respective directions starting July 28, 2025.
As per the revised schedule, train no 55662/55661 will now operate every day except Friday, while train no 55686/55685 will run daily except Sunday.
This change is expected to significantly benefit regular commuters, including students, office-goers, and traders, by offering more consistent and frequent transportation between the two destinations.
NF Railway stated that the decision to increase the frequency was made keeping in view the growing demand for daily connectivity between Silchar and Maishashan.
The enhanced service is anticipated to aid the movement of small-scale traders, facilitate the transport of agricultural produce, and improve access to local markets and essential services.
The added frequency is also expected to stimulate the economic activity of surrounding areas by strengthening trade and improving livelihood opportunities for residents.
Officials said that the revised schedules, along with details of stoppages and timings, are now available on the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) and have been disseminated through the NF Railway’s official social media platforms.
Passengers planning to travel on these routes have been advised to check the updated timings before their journey.
With this measure, NF Railway reaffirms its commitment to improving rail services in remote and underserved regions of the Northeast, furthering connectivity and fostering inclusive regional development.
