GUWAHATI, July 2: In a proactive response to the erosion crisis along the Pagladia River, the state minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Water Resources, Information & Public Relations, Printing & Stationery, Social Justice & Empowerment Pijush Hazarika visited the embankment site on Sunday to assess the situation firsthand.
According to a report, the left side of the riverbank has been severely affected by erosion, posing a threat to the local area. The Water Resources Department has already initiated preventive measures to address the issue promptly. During the inspection, minister Hazarika directed the department to expedite the prevention work, setting a strict deadline of four days for its completion.
Furthermore, the Water Resources Department has undertaken a crucial initiative to safeguard the area along the river by cutting down sandbars on the opposite bank. This proactive strategy aims to divert the flow of the Pagladia River, mitigating the erosive impact on the embankment and protecting the surrounding community.
Expressing his concerns for the affected residents, minister Hazarika emphasised the government’s commitment to tackling the erosion crisis effectively. The joint efforts of government representatives, local authorities, and relevant departments signify a collaborative approach to finding a lasting solution.
The government’s comprehensive approach to address the erosion issue demonstrates its proactive stance in tackling natural disasters and protecting vulnerable areas, asserted minister Hazarika. With the concerted efforts of all stakeholders involved, the administration aims to bring respite to the affected residents and secure the riverbank from future erosion threats.
Minister Hazarika was accompanied by MLA Diganta Barman, GMDA chairman Narayan Deka, Yuva Aayog member Ratul Sarma, and officials from the Water Resources Department and district administration.
