The accused were apprehended on Thursday night in the city’s Hatigaon area after a complaint was filed by the victim.

The two persons, who were arrested, have been named as 27-year-old Gautam Das, a native of the locality of Jatia in Kahilipara, and 19-year-old Manshab Biswas, a native of House No. 5, Bye-lane 1, Mula Gabharu Path, Dispur. The police promptly reacted to the complaint and apprehended the duo.

As per the investigation, Gautam Das and the victim were previously in a relationship. He uploaded her personal pictures on Telegram without her knowledge. The images were utilized by Manshab Biswas, who extorted the woman by seeking money and warning that he would publish more private content if she did not acquiesce.

The police lodged the case under Cyber PS Case No. 06/25 and referred to Sections 77, 79, and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhitha (BNS), 2023, and Section 66E and 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The duo is now in police custody under sustained interrogation from the cybercrime team as part of an on-going investigation.
