MORIGAON, October 17: The celebration for the 35 th District Day which was commenced from October
14 concluded on Tuesday.
Emphasizing on education of the girl child, the Morigaon district administration had taken the ‘ Beti
Bachao Beti Padhao’ as the main theme for the District day celebrations. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is a
scheme for educating the girl child. Women in large numbers participated in the celebrations.
More than 5000 women took out a rally in Morigaon town on October 14 during which they shouted
slogans highlighting the importance of educating the girl. 12 stalls were also set up by different state
government departments, including health, social welfare, National Urban Livelihoods Mission Society
(NULM), Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) and Axom Sarva Siksha Abhijan at the Morigaon
school field. Several women could be seen displaying their handloom and handicrafts products in these
stalls.
More than 1000 members of self-help groups also participated in the event. Several food and beverage
companies could also be seen setting up foods stalls on the occasion.
Under the Axom Sarva Siksha Abhijan, teaching and learning materials along with class one and two
were also installed here.
On the same day a felicitation programme was held where National Award winning Assamese actress
Malaya Goswami , Green Oscar winner Purnima Devi Barman, a prominent environmentalist, Assam Civil
Service officer Dharitri Kakati Amphi of Morigaon, radio jockey Pranamika Bhuyan, entrepreneur
Deepika Saikia of Morigaon, chief functionary Wahidah Rahman of Morigaon Mohila Mehfil and 8-year-
old Jahnavi Goswami, who had won a medal at the National Level Yoga Competition-2023 were
felicitated by the Morigaon district administration.
On October 15, a drawing competition was held at the Morigaon Girls’ Higher Secondary School. A
kayaking and canoeing competition was officially inaugurated by Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deuri at
the historic Charon Beel . The Kayaking and Canoeing competition was organized by District Hub for
Empowerment of Women led by district co-ordinator ,DHEM Pinki Devi and DPC of Pradhan Mantri
Matru Vandana Yojana Mousumi Kalita and co-ordinator of DHWE Ankur Bora.
The event was attended by SP Hemant Kumar Das, Morigaon Municipal Board’s chairman Jogesh Tamuli,
ADC Dyotiva Bora, ADC Sangita Barthakur, senior journalist Dalim Phukan, district social welfare officer,
district sports officer, several dignitaries ,students and locals .On the other hand the theme song was
produced by District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Morigaon, to spread the message of women
empowerment and celebrate the contributions of women. The song was officially launched by the
Morigaon district commissioner.
