KOKRAJHAR, Feb 6: In a bid to promote awareness among farmers about modern methods of muga silk production, the Muga Resham Vigyan Krishi Mela 2025 was organised at IT Park, Chandrapara in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.
The event was organised by the Central Silk Board with support from the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Sericulture Department.

The BTC executive member for the Sericulture department, Daobaisa Boro inaugurated the mela in the presence of Dr NK Bhatia, director of the Central Silk Board’s Muga Eri Silkworm Seed Organisation, Guwahati.
More than a hundred farmers from Kokrajhar and neighbouring areas participated, where sessions on different subjects like improved sericulture practices in muga culture, diseases and pest management, host plant cultivation, farm maintenance and government schemes supporting sericulture were conducted by experts.
An exhibition of various silk products crafted by local artisans was also showcased at the Mela.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bhatia highlighted Bodoland’s significant potential in silk production and reiterated the Central Silk Board’s commitment to supporting its development.
EM Daobaisa Boro noted that eri silk products from Bodoland are in high demand in the global market, underscoring the BTC’s focus on improving both the quality and quantity of silk production. He said, “The government of Bodoland Territorial Council is committed to work for all-round development and welfare of the society, and accordingly rendered services towards the uplift in the region.”
Among the dignitaries present were retired director of BTC Sericulture Dr Jogesh Deuri and the additional director of BTC Sericulture Anjan Chakraborty.
