Baukhungri Festival concludes in Kokrajhar

Festival organised by BTR govt in collaboration with tourism department

KOKRAJHAR, APRIL 16: The 11th edition of the Baukhungri Festival, the biggest festival in Bodoland Territorial Region has concluded with two days of colourful programme held along the Baukhungri Hill Harinaguri in Kokrajhar.

The festival comprised of traditional folk culture, indigenous sports and local food traditions at the Harinaguri, which was organised by the government of Bodoland Territorial Region and the tourism department. The celebration of Rongjali Bwisagu also included hill trekking on the last day of Choitra month on April 13.

The event has gained mass participation cutting across different communities from several states of the country.

The concluding day witnessed a prize distribution ceremony, where competition winners were awarded cash prize and gifts by the organising committee amidst a huge gathering of visitors.

On the first day of the event, a hill trekking competition for men and women was held, which was flagged off at the Harinaguri High School playground. People in large numbers participated in the competition.

In the male category, Puran Rai (Sikkim), Pradip Mahato (West Bengal) and Vivek Chetry (West Bengal) were adjusted as first, second and third spot respectively. In the female category, Sabina Rai (West Bengal), Shyamali Singh (West Bengal) and Madhu Rai (Uttar Pradesh) were spotted as first, second and third respectively.

In the mountain cycling, Alvindarison Winniang (Meghalaya), Alancemayer Lyngdoh Nanglait (Meghalaya ) and Burlungbuthur Narzary( Bodoland ) bagged the first, second and third respectively in the men’s category. In the women category, Phymai Kyndait (Meghalaya), Bhasati Saikia (Assam) and Rwisumwi Bala Basumatary (Bodoland ) were adjusted as first, second and third spot respectively.

Several competitions were held for men and women were also organised, which included mountain bike cycling competition, hills trekking competition, indigenous games and sports competition, showcasing of traditional food items and cultural demonstrations representing different communities.

Bodoland University registrar Subung Basumatary, NRL independent director Sandeep Pradhan, AFA secretary Sangrang Brahma, BTC secretary Ditaka Nanda Hazarika and joint secretary Pami Brahma graced the occasion.
