SIVASAGAR, June 9: Lakshya Konwar, president of the Assam Olympic Association, paid a visit to the Peoli Phukan Stadium and met with members of the Sivasagar Sports Association (SSA) to assess the progress of the ongoing Rs 5 crore infrastructure development grant on Friday.
Konwar suggested expanding the SSA network to cover every corner of the district and encouraged the registration of emerging sports talents. He also called for assistance from recognised sports bodies to organise major sporting events in the district.
Konwar emphasised that the BJP government is allocating funds to at least two organisations in every Development Block across the state. Therefore, it is essential for sports bodies to monitor the proper utilisation of public funds in the best interest of sports.
During the visit, Manoj Bhagawati, secretary of SSA, provided a concise overview of the SSA’s activities throughout the year. Manoj Kumar Borthakur requested Konwar’s support in approaching the government regarding the possibility of reclaiming government plots that were previously allotted to flood-affected individuals, with the intention of expanding the Peoli Phukan Stadium Complex. Sarat Hazarika also expressed his views on the objectives of the visit.
