SIVASAGAR, Dec 2: With a daylong programme, Rangpur Sahitya Sabha celebrated its diamond jubilee at the Amolapatty Namghar premises on Saturday. Attending the open session, noted writer and former HoD of English at SMD College, Professor Tuwaram Khanikar, said that the recognition of the Assamese language as a classical language is a certificate that the language will not die. However, this is not enough to keep alive a language that is so rich in pedagogy and etymology. Just one letter or morpheme in Assamese can express an entire sentence, such as ra, hu, ka, etc. Hem Baruah, president of Rangpur Sahitya Sabha, hoisted the flag, while Dhiren Bhuyan, Putali Goswami, and Prema Gogoi performed the tarpan. Jeuti Bora Bhuyan, the secretary, spoke on the objectives.
