KOKRAJHAR, Dec 5: The Governor of Assam, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, has approved the nomination of two members of the Council Legislative Assembly (NCLAs) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Sajal Kumar Singha and Saikong Basumatary, as executive members in the Executive Council of the BTC.
In a notification from the Raj Bhavan, Governor Secretariat, Guwahati, the two NCLAs of the BTC have been inducted as executive members of the BTC with immediate effect. This decision follows a recommendation from Pramod Boro, the chief executive member (CEM) of the BTC.
Sajal Kumar Singha, who represents the Srirampur constituency, was initially elected as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) during the 2020 BTC elections. However, he switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before the formation of the BTC government in 2020.
Saikong Basumatary, elected from the Chirang constituency, was originally a member of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). He later joined the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), aligning with the present BTC government.
Notably, the two EM positions had been vacant for a few months following the removal of former EMs of the BTC, Ghanashyam Das and Reoreoa Narzihary, from the Executive Council.
With the induction of the two new EMs, the strength of the Executive Council now stands at 17, including the CEM and the deputy CEM of the BTC.
Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of the BTC, has extended his hearty congratulations to Singha and Basumatary on their induction as EMs of the Executive Council. He expressed hope that the appointments would usher in more developmental initiatives in the coming days. He reiterated the BTC government’s commitment to the all-round development and welfare of the region’s people.
The UPPL party also extended its warm congratulations and best wishes to Basumatary and Singha on their induction as EMs in the expanded Executive Council of the BTC.
