SILCHAR, Jan 29: In a pivotal stride toward fostering development and ensuring inclusive governance, secretary (senior), welfare of minorities and development department, Adil Khan, conducted an extensive review of key district facilities in Cachar on Tuesday. Accompanied by Cachar district commissioner, Mridul Yadav and district development commissioner, Norsing Bey, the review underscored a commitment to disaster preparedness, infrastructure growth, public health, and equitable governance.
The visit commenced with an in-depth assessment of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) godown on Town Club Road. Secretary Adil Khan, while evaluating emergency stockpiles and disaster response protocols, lauded the DDMA team for their proactive measures, particularly their readiness for the impending monsoon season. He emphasised the need for sustained preparedness to mitigate risks and safeguard vulnerable communities effectively.
The delegation proceeded to the construction site of the Mini Secretariat at Srikona. Here, the focus was on reviewing construction progress, adherence to safety standards, and the project’s significance in enhancing administrative efficiency. Highlighting the initiative’s transformative potential, Secretary Adil Khan stressed its critical role in bridging service delivery gaps across the district.
At the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Office in Meherpur, deliberations revolved around improving access to clean drinking water, particularly in areas with a significant minority population. Discussions covered pipeline maintenance, water supply schemes, and addressing regional disparities. Secretary Adil Khan called for an inclusive infrastructure strategy to improve the quality of life for all communities.
The team also visited Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) at Ghungoor to evaluate ongoing upgrades to healthcare infrastructure. During interactions with hospital officials and staff, secretary Adil Khan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring accessible, high-quality healthcare services, emphasising that no citizen should be left behind in availing essential medical facilities.
The comprehensive review brought together disaster management, infrastructure development, public health, and minority welfare departments, promoting a synergistic approach to district development. Secretary Adil Khan reiterated the government’s vision for holistic growth and inclusive progress in Cachar, advocating for coordinated initiatives to uplift the region and improve living standards for its residents.
