Student bodies gherao Demow Police Station

DEMOW, Nov 25: Under the patronage of the All Tai Ahom Students Union (ATASU), Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA), Asomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM), All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA), and Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti (CMSS), and in association with the people, a group gheraoed the Demow Police Station on Monday in protest against the failure of Demow police to apprehend the cattle thieves and the Rajmai Cattle Syndicate gang.

The protesters displayed placards, shouted slogans against Assam Police, Demow police, and the BJP, and demanded an end to the cattle syndicate. Later, the leaders of ATASU, ATTSA, AYM, AASAA, and CMSS submitted a memorandum to the superintendent of police (SP) of Sivasagar district through the officer-in-charge of Demow Police Station. 

In the memorandum, they stated their demands and called for the eradication of the syndicate gang. Subsequently, the Demow circle officer reached the protest area, assured the crowd that the police investigation was ongoing, and listened to the views of the student organisations. 

Among those present at the protest program were Jadav Gogoi, president of AYM Central Committee; Sumeet Kumar Handique, ATASU leader; Biswanath Nag, secretary of ATTSA, Demow Branch; Lalit Tanti, president of AASAA, Demow Regional Committee; Jaan Barua, president of AYM, Demow Town Committee; Karan Gogoi, adviser of Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti; and members of the public.
