SVEEP holds cycle rally in Diphu

DIPHU, April 22: To promote awareness on adult franchise the State Voter’s Electoral Education and Participation (SVEEP) cell organised a cycle rally in Diphu on Monday.

State icon Rakesh Banik, a para-cyclist and district icon Khorsing Terang along with women, youths and NCC cadres from schools and colleges participated in the programme.

The Karbi Anglong district administration, Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLMS), Assam State Urban Livelihood Mission Society (ASULMS), Women Justice Forum, Cyclist Association, NCC Diphu Government College, Athletics Association and Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) participated in the rally.

The rally that began from the district commissioner’s office proceeded towards Diphu Market and ended at the Gandhi Park, Diphu bus stand. The participants displayed placards with slogans like ‘My vote is not for sale’ ‘If you don’t vote you lose the right to complain’ and ‘Belief in the power of you vote during the rally.

In a short interaction with the participants the state icon, Rakesh Banik said election is an important event in a democracy in choosing a right and unbiased candidate, who would stand for the cause of the people. Election is conducted for creating a healthy democracy.

Taking his own example Banik, who is a differently abled individual with one of his legs amputated due to an accident, said life is harsh. There is challenge in life. Every person has to struggle and there is no person here who has not undergone any difficulties in life. On the voting day voters should come out to cast their valuable vote.

District icon Terang urged the voters to cast their valuable votes to choose the correct candidate, who will raise their voice on the issues and problems of the region in the Parliament.
