Triennial session of Sivasagar Jila Mohila Samity held

SIVASAGAR, May 15: The two-day triennial session of the Sivasagar Jila Mohila Samity, held in Hindu Dharma Naamghar Auditorium ended on Sunday.

Monica Saikia, an educationist and a prominent women activist of the state hoisted the flag on Saturday to initiate the programme. Mridula Baruah lit the ceremonial lamp while Mrinalee Konwar, chairperson, Sivasagar Municipality Board, and leading entrepreneur Ruma Bezbaruah did the smriti tarpan.

Padumi Das inaugurated the Biyanaam competition. Geeta Sarmah and Suchitra Neog, the president and secretary, Asom Pradeshik Mohila Samity, and Santosh Dutta, secretary, of Sivasagar Jila Sahitya Sabha, addressed the session as guest speakers and lauded the role of the district Samity in uplifting the moral of the women folk and inspiring them to fight injustice. ‘Maukh’, the souvenir edited by Bibha Borgohain, was released by Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, principal, Gargaon College.

Twelve distinguished persons were felicitated in the meeting. They were Nitya Narayan Borgohain, Gauri Bhagawati, Jayashree Chaliha, Makhan Bora, Dr Arundhati Mahanta, Dipali Dutta Saikia, Trailukya Dutta, Dipak Bhuyan, Nilmony Mahanta, Arati Borgohain and Dipak Dutta. Mridushmita Sarma Rajguru led team won the first prize in the Biyanaam competition, followed by Nadi Samajik Sanskritik Dal and Neeru Dutta led team.
