DIBRUGARH, June 23: Three cadres affiliated with the NSCN, including two from the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Reformation (NSCN-R) and one from the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM), voluntarily surrendered before the Changlang district police in Arunachal Pradesh.
The surrendered individuals have been identified as Jongham Saijong (43) of Old Jukhi village, Lomjan Pangtha (51) of Jongji Havi village, and KhangjungKhanglim (22) of Old Salang village.
According to police, the three individuals decided to surrender following counselling efforts and with the support of their family members.
“With the support of their family members and our counselling efforts, they chose to renounce violence and return to the mainstream of society,” a police official said.
Meanwhile, security forces have launched massive operations against insurgents in the Tirap, Longding and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
“So far, many insurgents from various groups have returned to the mainstream after security forces appealed to them to do so. The Assam Rifles and the police have been trying to help youths return to the mainstream,” an official said.
Officials said such surrenders are being encouraged through sustained outreach and enforcement measures, with the broader objective of fostering normalcy and supporting long-term development in the district.
Taking to the micro-blogging site X, Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet Minister Mama Natung said the return of the three NSCN cadres to the mainstream in Changlang district marked a positive step towards strengthening peace and stability in the state.
“I commend the efforts of the Changlang district police, whose dedicated counselling and rehabilitation initiatives, together with the unwavering support of the cadres’ families, have helped them choose the path of peace over violence,” he said.
“Our government remains committed to creating opportunities for the peaceful reintegration of misguided youths into the mainstream. I encourage all those who have strayed onto the path of violence to embrace dialogue and reconciliation. Let us all work together to ensure that peace, unity and development continue to shape the future of Arunachal Pradesh,” he added.
