KHERONI, June 23: The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) marked its 75th Foundation Day with grand celebrations on Tuesday, highlighted by the unfurling of the National Flag at RangsinaSarpo Ahongjai, Taralangso, KAAC Secretariat in Diphu, and the Hamren KAAC Branch Secretariat.
The day featured tributes to legendary figures, ceremonial appointments, award distributions and cultural programmes.
The programme commenced at 8:00 am with the unfurling of the National Flag. At 8:30 am, homage was paid to Semson Sing Ingti, KhorsingTerang and Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) at RangsinaSarpo Ahongjai, Taralangso, as well as at the designated locations of their statues in Diphu.
An open session was held at 11:00 am under the chairmanship of Raju Tisso, Chairman of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. Dr Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KAAC, attended the programme as the chief guest, while Amarsing Tisso, Member of Parliament from the 6-Diphu (ST) Lok Sabha constituency, was present as the guest of honour.
Several dignitaries, including Deputy Chairman Avijit Kro, MLAs and other officials, attended the programme as special guests.
During the celebrations, Dr Ronghang distributed appointment letters to the chairpersons of TVDCs and TET-qualified Assistant Teachers (Lower Primary) under the Primary Education Department, KAAC. He also handed over the keys of a newly constructed house to noted Karbi folk singer and cultural icon Pakhila Lekthepi.
In a significant administrative development ahead of the KAAC Foundation Day celebrations, HeadsingRongphar and KadomTerangpi were officially appointed as Executive Members (EMs) of the 13th Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. Additionally, Darsing Ronghang, former MLA of Howraghat, was appointed as a nominated Member of the KAAC, replacing Mukut Manhant as a nominated MAC.
The day also witnessed the ceremonial presentation of the CEM Lifetime Achievement Awards 2026 in various fields and the distribution of certificates and medals to outstanding sportspersons in badminton.
The celebrations will continue into the evening with a Cultural Night at 5:00 pm dedicated to Lt Sum Ronghang, a cultural torchbearer, AIR artiste, former CEM of KAAC and former Assam Cabinet Minister. This will be followed by the illumination of the KAAC Secretariat building and all government offices under the administrative control of KAAC at 6:00 pm, and the screening of the Karbi feature film “TASAM” at 8:00 pm.
The 75th Foundation Day celebrations underscored the rich cultural heritage and administrative progress of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, bringing together leaders, dignitaries and citizens in a spirit of unity and celebration.
