GUWAHATI, Oct 28: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended a programme on “Music For Harmony” organised by Nobel Art Documentation and Development Foundation (NADDF) and National Foundation for Cultural Harmony in collaboration with Cotton University on Monday.
The event was held at the KBR auditorium in Cotton University, Guwahati.

Speaking on the occasion Governor Acharya said, “Music is a divine gift and its importance in fostering unity and cultural harmony is immense. Music is a unique gift of God to the man. It is an integral part of our culture, which is not only a source of joy but also a symbol of goodwill and unity”.
The Governor highlighted several key points as to how music can be helpful in strengthening unity amidst diversities. He said that music always acts as a universal language and transcends boundaries and linguistic barriers. He said that with seven musical notes and rhythms remaining constant across cultures, music creates a catharsis and augurs peace and harmony. He cited examples of how music played a crucial role in India’s freedom movement through songs like “Jana Gana Mana and Vande Mataram”.
The Governor also emphasized India’s unique classical musical repository as an important part of the nation’s intangible cultural heritage.
The Governor also commended the Nobel Art Documentation and Development Foundation for its decade-long commitment to promoting peace and harmony through music.
The Governor also reiterated the importance of exposing younger generations to various musical styles to broaden their perspectives and strengthen their connection to cultural roots.
He concluded by calling for the use of music not just as entertainment, but as a tool for promoting goodwill and unity in society.
Vice Chancellor of Cotton University Prof Ramesh Chandra Deka along with a host of other dignitaries were present in the programme.
