AGARTALA, May 5: In a major boost to regional logistics and trade connectivity, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has launched a dedicated Parcel Cargo Express Train (PCET) service between Agartala in Tripura and Sanehwal in Punjab.
This service, aimed at enhancing the transportation of key commodities like rubber and pineapples from the Northeast to larger markets, is expected to significantly support local economies and traders.
NFR officials said that the PCET, bearing train numbers 00832/00833, will operate twice a month, completing a total of 144 round trips over the next six years. Initially, the train will consist of 15 parcel vans and one brake van, with plans to expand to 20 parcel vans after six months in response to growing demand.
“This initiative marks a significant milestone in improving the region’s freight movement. It offers an efficient, timely, and cost-effective logistics solution for farmers and traders in Tripura and nearby areas,” said an NFR official.
The service will be operated by AVG Logistics Ltd., which won the lease through a transparent and competitive bidding process. The contract is valued at approximately Rs 68.95 crore, underlining a strong investment push in the region’s supply chain infrastructure.
NFR officials highlighted that the launch of this cargo train aligns with Indian Railways’ broader vision of promoting parcel train services across the country to meet long-haul freight needs.
