ID Cup Football Tournament: Manipur ASUFII beat Star Sporting Club Nagaon to enter semifinals

NAGAON, Dec 3: In a quarterfinal match of the ongoing 76th ID Cup Prize Money Football Tournament at Nagaon Nurul Amin Stadium here, the powerful Manipur team, ASUFII Football Association, defeated Star Sporting Club by 2-0 goals on Tuesday here, entering to the semifinals.

The Manipur team dominated the game from the beginning, creating pressure on the opponent till the end. In the 40th minute, Mathanomei from Manipur, scored the first goal, taking the lead with 1-0 till the half time.

After the break, the Star team increased their attack in search of an equalizing goal but failed to breach the opponent’s defense. Maintaining the game’s momentum, Arun Kumar from Manipur scored another goal in the 63rd minute, securing a 2-0 victory for Manipur.

Following the match, Mrinal Hazarika, the in-charge of the Star Sporting Club, expressed satisfaction and pride in playing the quarterfinal match against a team from outside the state in the prestigious tournament.

The match started following introduction to the guests, PP Sharma, Chief Manager of the Nagaon branch, State Bank of India, and Philip, a personnel from the bank’s Human Resources Department, to the players of both teams by Tapan Kumar Das, general secretary of Nagaon Sports Association.
