GUWAHATI, July 4: A member of the AIUDF party, Nizam Uddin Choudhury, has been granted bail by a Hailakandi court on Tuesday, following an altercation that occurred six days ago. Choudhury had been taken into custody on allegations of involvement in a physical altercation with an MLA of the BJP.

The incident reportedly took place on the evening of June 27 in the vicinity of Dholeshwari point in Hailakandi, Assam. Choudhury was accused of causing damage to a vehicle and engaging in a physical confrontation with Ataur Rahman Laskar, a member of the opposing BJP party.

Laskar subsequently filed a complaint against Choudhury, along with three other individuals identified as Guljar Hussain Talukdar, Naseem Ahmed Choudhury, and Sultan Ahmed Choudhury. The complaint alleged that Choudhury and his associates had vandalised Laskar’s vehicle and made several hostile attempts on his life.

In the complaint, it was stated that Choudhury and his companions forcibly halted Laskar’s private car, using sticks and rods to launch a violent assault. The incident resulted in significant damage to Laskar’s vehicle.

Following the filing of the complaint, the local police took immediate action and apprehended Nizam Uddin Choudhury, the AIUDF party member. The court granted him bail after six days of detention, on Tuesday. Legal proceedings will continue in accordance with the law
