HAFLONG, July 14: Jayanta Mallabaruah, the minister for Public Health Engineering department, chaired a meeting on Friday with officials from the PHE department, Panchayat and Rural Development department, and the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM). The meeting aimed to review the implementation of schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Dima Hasao district.
The meeting was attended by chief executive member of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Debolal Gorlosa, Assam minister for Sports & Youth Welfare, Nandita Gorlosa, and Member of Parliament, Horensing Bey, among others.
During the meeting, the minister discussed various challenges faced during the implementation of the schemes in different areas of the district. He stated the need to prioritise areas affected by the lack of drinking water and to promptly address any issues that may arise. The officials were directed to complete the work within specified timelines, ensuring that the ambitious goal of providing clean drinking water through water taps to rural areas, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is achieved.
Minister Barua expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his significant contribution to providing clean water to every household in Dima Hasao district. He also highlighted that the issue of urban drinking water in Haflong city would be addressed through the AMRUT scheme under the leadership of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Additionally, minister Barua commended Dima Hasao district for being the only district in Assam to receive the ODF Plus award, acknowledging its remarkable achievements in cleanliness. Despite transportation challenges in the hilly districts, efforts are underway to ensure clean drinking water is provided to every household, particularly in rural areas, by 2024.
CEM Debolal Gorlosa shared his insights on the ground reality during the implementation process and acknowledged the efforts of officials and individuals involved. He emphasised the importance of wholeheartedly implementing the Prime Minister’s vision for the benefit of the people. He highlighted how interior villages have greatly benefited from this scheme, receiving access to clean drinking water.
Minister Nandita Gorlosa, MP Horensing Bey, and MD of JJM, Assam, Kailash Kartik, IAS, also shared their perspectives during the meeting. Attendees included chairperson of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Ranu Langthasa, executive members of the PHE department, Amendu Hojai and Projit Hojai, as well as other council members, officials from the Panchayat and Rural Development department, and representatives from the DC’s office.
