GUWAHATI, Aug 30: Guwahati is gearing up to host a significant pre-event roadshow for the 3rd Global Maritime India Summit 2023 (GMIS), organised by the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways and the Inland Waterways Authority of India. The roadshow, scheduled for Thursday, aims to engage with various stakeholders in the maritime sector and the inland waterways industry, setting the stage for the forthcoming GMIS.

The inauguration of the roadshow will be led by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union minister of ports, shipping & waterways and Ayush, along with the participation of ministers from the Northeastern states.

Speaking ahead of the roadshow, Sarbananda Sonowal emphasised, “The potential that Northeast India holds, along with our neighboring countries, presents a substantial opportunity for growth and development. This roadshow seeks to tap into the waterways sector’s potential in the Northeast and explore maritime avenues for the region’s advancement. By bringing various stakeholders onto a common platform, we can discuss, share, and explore the possibilities of leveraging waterways and other aspects of the maritime sector to drive growth in the Northeast.”

Sonowal added, “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry has organized the GMIS from October 17 to 19, 2023, at Bharat Mandapam. Themed ‘Connect, Collaborate & Create,’ the summit aims to provide a global and domestic platform to unlock the vast potential of the maritime sector. I am confident that the discussions and collaborations during this event will pave the way for a successful Global Maritime India Summit 2023.”
