Moran Press Club fetes Dr Pratap Sarmah

SIVASAGAR, Sept 2: Moran Press Club felicitated Dr Pratap
Sarmah in its popular monthly programme ’ Ei Mahor Atithi’ on
Friday in a function held in Abhaypur.
Receiving the felicitations, Dr Sarmah said that Moran or
Moranhat has a distinct position in the socio-cultural and
economic sector of Assam. It is a place of numerous important
personalities like noted socialist and journalist Kedarnath
Goswami, Dr Pradip Hazarika, Dr Kamala Borgohain,

Ghanakanta Gogoi, Binanta Gogoi, Dr Binanda Gogoi, Dr
Muktinath Gogoi, Padmashree Hema Prabha Chutia, and many
others.
Sovit Chetri, chief adviser, Moran Press Club gave a brief speech
on the life and works of the noted physician Dr Pratap Sarmah
and said that Dr Sarmah has long been serving the people of
Moran and the vast nearby areas since 1976 from his own
chamber Moran Medical Hall.
Besides being a doctor, Sarmah is also a serious cultural activist
in the region. It was under his leadership the Moran Milita Silpi
Samaj` took shape and staged ‘Sakunir Pratisodh’ in 1978 and
took part in numerous cultural activities as the secretary of the
organisation for 25 years.
Dr Sarmah joined Moran State Dispensary as an NHM doctor
and is still very active in the socio-cultural field of Moran. The
members of the Moran Press Club paid tributes to all the
important personalities that Moran lost at the beginning of the
function.
