2 ULFA-I cadres arrested in Arunachal

Dibrugarh, Oct 2: Two active cadres of ULFA(I) were apprehended with arms and ammunition in a joint
operation by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles in conjunction with Arunachal Pradesh police in
Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district.
Based on reliable inputs, a joint team of the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh
police launched an operation and apprehended the two Ulfa(I) cadres.
According to sources, the two hardcore insurgents who had crossed the Indo-Myanmar international
border were trying to make their way to Assam in a bid to carry out subversive activities.
The cadres have been identified as self styled private Nilutpal Asom alias Monjit Gogoi and self styled
private Upen Asom alias Ruhini Gogoi. Both are residents of Assam and were recruited to the Ulfa(I) last
year.
According to police, weapons and ammunition were recovered from them.
The security forces have been trying to curb the influx of such cadres through the long and porous Indo-
Myanmar international border.
“This year alone, there have been numerous arrests and surrenders of ULFA (I) cadres in southern areas
of Arunachal Pradesh, which has dealt a serious blow to the activities and hierarchy of the banned
outfit,” said a police source.
Militants known to have bases in Myanmar, have been trying relentlessly trying to cross into the Indian
territory to carry out subversive activities. As the general elections are slated to be held next year, this
trend has increased in a bid to disturb the process.
