TEZPUR, Nov 15: Along with rest of the country Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed the 15th
installment of Pradhan Mantri Krishak Sanman Nidhi to eligible beneficiaries of Sonitpur district through
a live webcast function held at Khunti in Jharkhand on Wednesday.
In Sonitpur a total of 26774 eligible beneficiaries of the PM Krishak Sanman Nidhi scheme received the
installment through direct benefit transfer mood in their respective accounts. The scheme aims to
support farmers in meeting their agricultural and other incidental needs. The live webcast was broadcast
centrally at a function held at the auditorium of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Sonitpur.
On the other hand, the inauguration of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra and the Pradhan Mantri
Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups Development Mission (PM-PVTG) by the Prime Minister was also
webcast on the occasion. PM-PVTG is a scheme meant for the overall development of around 28 lakh
people from vulnerable tribal groups. The Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra is observed on the birth
anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
More than 100 farmers attended the programme that was organized by the Sonitpur district agriculture
department in collaboration with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra. An interactive session between scientists and
farmers was also conducted during which scientists discussed in detail on the scientific cultivation of the
upcoming Rabi crops in the district.
The PM Krishak Sanman Nidhi of the Union government is one of the world’s largest direct benefit
transfer scheme. It exemplifies the continued commitment of the Centre to initiate policy actions for an
inclusive and productive agricultural sector in which, financial benefit of Rs 6,000 per year in three equal
installments, is transferred into the bank accounts of farmers’ families across the country through direct
benefit transfer mode.
The live web cast broadcasted in Sonitpur was attended by district development commissioner Gaya
Prasad Agarwala, assistant director of the agriculture department Mizanur Rahman Choudhury, senior
agriculture development officer Asim Pathak, agriculture development officers Sanjib Saikia, Dipankar
Barik, Kamal Krishna Das and Panchamika Dutta, district media specialist Bitopan Saikia, scheme officer
Ranjita Goswami, scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and other officers and employees of the district
agriculture department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
