GUWAHATI, Nov 28: The Ngada Festival, the premier festival of
the Rengma tribe recently began on RSA ground in Tseminyu.
Deputy commissioner Tseminyu, Rohit Singh was present as the
special guest during the inaugural event.
The main events included the Ngada procession, indigenous
games competition while Miss Tseminyu 2023 was held later in
the evening with MLA, Achumbemo Kikon, as the special guest.
While extending festival greetings, Singh said Ngada was the
foremost festival of the Rengma people and that he was happy
to be part of it. He said it was important to hold such festivities
so that the people would remember their culture while the
youths would also get to learn more about their own traditions
by taking part in the event.
“We will lose our identity if we do not know our culture or fail
to carry on our traditional practices,” Singh said. He urged
everyone to come forward and join in the celebration at the
same time contribute towards the rich cultural activities. He
later wished a grand success to all the festivities.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by cultural secretary,
Rengma Hoho, Kehoyi Kez while traditional blessings were
pronounced by Kegwanye Kent.
Indigenous games competition among the seven ranges
included tug of war, bamboo pole climbing, bamboo stilt race,
high kick and howling & yodelling.
The grand Ngada celebration will be held on Tuesday with
minister for Power & Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye as the
special guest while MLA and chairman DPDB, Tseiminyu, Ar
Jwenga Seb, as the Ngada host. It may be mentioned that the
festival is held under Tseminyu district green initiatives based
on the theme, “Collective Action for Our Shared Future”.
