IMPHAL, Dec 10: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) recently submitted memorandums to the three MPs (Members of Parliament) from Manipur, urging them to take up the present burning issue of Manipur in the ongoing Parliament session.
A delegation of the MPCC led by its vice president Hareshwar Goshwami submitted the memorandums to the MPs – Dr RK Ranjan Singh, Lorho S Pfoze and Leishemba Sanajaoba – after visiting them in their official residences in New Delhi.
In the memorandums, the MPCC urged the MPs to take up the burning issue of Manipur as they are the representatives of Manipur in the Parliament so that the Parliament discusses the prevailing situation of Manipur for an appropriate decision of special attention on taking up immediate measures for the restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.
It also stressed the need for immediate rehabilitation and restoration of all displaced persons with adequate security and payment of suitable compensation urgently.
The MPCC, in the memorandums, reminded the sudden eruption of violence on May 3 last after a Tribal Solidarity March organised by the All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM).
Since then, Manipur has been scorching non-stop. More than 60,000 people are displaced and living in relief camps, around 200 people were either killed or missing and a number of dead bodies are still lying in various mortuaries in the state, it also said.
Some 6,000 weapons were snatched or looted from police posts and battalions with several rounds of ammunition.
“Even after seven long, torturous, and painful months, there is no sign of restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur,” it stated, while asserting that due to these happenings, Manipur is lagging behind in every aspect of development, and the grief and miseries of the people are manifold.
While submitting the memorandums, the delegation met with MP Dr RK Ranjan who is also Union minister of state for education and external affairs and Lorho S Pfoze (MP from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency).
The Congress delegation, however, submitted the memorandum to the MP (Rajya Sabha) through the family members as he was not at his residence when the delegation visited his Delhi residence. (NNN)
